Student 1 is an Ethiopian-Eritrean Minneapolis-based artist whose music blends melody and experimental production to explore his inner and outer worlds and profound topics like addiction, grief, and mental health. Now, he's gearing up to expand his sonic palette with his fourth project, titled truant. In 2022, he shared OFFTHEDUST!, mixed by collaborator, engineer and artist Alex Tumay (Drake, Travis Scott, Metro Boomin, 21 Savage).
Known for his versatility, he has amassed millions of global streams and garnered attention from The Current, Star Tribune, and Lyrical Lemonade. Student 1 has performed hundreds of times on stages around the country, including SXSW, Soundset, Afropunk, and First Avenue. Now, the musician prepares to share his most honest work to date alongside a summer-long tour.
Ghais Guevara
Not many rappers have performed at enormous venues, punk rock dive bars, and Marxist book stores - introducing: Ghais Guevara. Born and raised in North Philly amidst both guns and gang avoidance tactics, nurtured and educated using generational radical Black leftist thought, Ghais Guevara revels in the juxtapositions and narrative conflicts of his life with standout projects such as There Will Be No Super-Slave and Goyard Ibn Said. Both of which have received critical and cultural recognition from the likes of Vice, NPR, The Needle Drop, and beyond for their witty and compelling lyrical navigations soundtracked by this one-man band’s beatmaking ability.
